I am so excited to announce I will be participating in my first One Room Challenge as a guest participant. This event is held twice a year and hosted by Calling It Home.
If you are not familiar with this event, over the course of six weeks participants have to redo an entire room and document week by week. Check back here each Wednesday and Thursday to view the progress of each room over at Calling It Home.
The room I have selected to do is a nursery. This is not for any nursery, but SURPRISE! Beebout Design is welcoming a baby boy come December. We are so excited for our little man to join the family and he is going to get a kick ass room to call his own. This week I will be sharing what the room looks like now and my design board for the room.
Before Photos
As you can see it is really a blank slate. We have not touched this room since we moved in and it was the catch all space for spare furniture and an extra bed for guests. First up is to remove the carpet and continue the flooring that we have throughout the main areas of the house. I know this is going to make a huge impact already with transforming the space. A lot of people like to have carpets in their bedrooms, but that is just not for me. With a dog, two cats, and soon to be baby, it is a lot of work to keep the hairballs off the floor and it looking clean.
Nursery Design Inspiration
The design of this room came easy as I have been dying to put up some wallpaper in our home and what better space to have some fun with wallpaper than a nursery. There are so many beautiful wallpapers out in the market for kids rooms. I fell in love with the Dino wallpaper by Sian Zeng. This print has just the touch of whimsy I was looking for and came in this beautiful green color way.
In addition to wallpaper, I also wanted to incorporate wood paneling. We live in a new build home which does not come with a lot of character. One of the best ways to add architectural detail to a home and transform it from looking builder basic to custom is with wood moulding, trims, and paneling. As much as I love shiplap, I wanted to incorporate board and batten 2/3 of the way up the wall.
Although the general scope of the room was decided I did still have a few inspiration images I had pulled together to help showcase the colors and mood I was going for in the space. Lots of greens with pops of mustard and gray. I am having a little fun with color in the space in my mainly neutral home.
Nursery Design Plan
Finally, here is the design board for the room with some of the pieces that I have ordered. I will be using an existing antique walnut campaign dresser that will also serve as our changing table and my leather butterfly chair. I am still working out the small accessories in the space, but it feels good to have the big items selected and on their way. One of the great features of using wallpaper is that this serves as the main focal point of the room that does not require a lot of artwork or accessories. There are still items on my list I need to find including a pouf, curtains/roman shades, and a small side table for next to the butterfly chair. Wish me luck!
