Here we are at week 3 of the one room challenge. I can’t believe we are halfway through this season. We made big strides this past week in our dino themed baby boy nursery. Although it was a grueling week of work, we powered through and completed the board and batten paneling, caulked and filled the nail holes, primed, and painted.
Paint Selection
Last week I shared the two paint colors I was trying to decide between. I was looking for a color similar to the darker green used in the wallpaper print. Although it is a smaller space, I knew a richer green would look great since it does not get a ton of natural light. The white paint in this room felt dull. I could have gone with a safer lighter color scheme, but what fun is that. I like to use my own home as a mini design lab to stretch the limits more than a client may want to do.
If you guessed ‘Olive Grove’ you are correct! As much as I loved ‘Messenger Bag’ it was a little too dark and had more brown undertones than I was looking for. ‘Messenger Bag’ would be a great color to use on a piece of furniture or kitchen cabinets for those that are equally obsessed with olive green as I am.
Remaining Projects
The next three weeks are going to be less labor intensive for the hubs and I as we have hired out for the wallpaper and adding the electrical. As much as we love to do our home projects ourselves, we took the opportunity to balance the workload and bring in some extra hands. I am anxiously waiting for all the remaining items for the room to arrive. I may be cutting it close with our roman shade for the window. Fingers crossed it arrives in time for the final reveal.
Favorite Wallpaper Picks
Over the course of planning the room design, I came across many great wallpaper options that would be wonderful additions to any boys nursery or kids room. I always like to balance my nursery and kid rooms designs with a little whimsy while also maintaining a balance of style and kid-friendly materials that will last as they grow older.
Here are some of the close contenders that I was considering for our nursery design. These would be great picks for a boys nursery or kids room.

Hi Kaitlyn! I came across your blog while uploading my own ORC link. Can I just say that I’m dying right now? I WANT A DINOSAUR BEDROOM! I wonder if it’s too late to convince my boyfriend to go for it…
I’m loving the animal and botanical wallpaper picks. They’re so fun and modern, yet reminiscent of classic illustration. And I know the feeling of using your home as a design lab to test daring color possibilities! The green looks gorgeous in there.
