One Room Challenge Week 7-Final Reveal!

The time is finally here, I can share the reveal of our baby boy dinosaur themed nursery for my first One Room Challenge! It has been a whirlwind seven weeks to get to where we are today. After weeks of planning, ripping out carpet, laying new floors, sawing, sanding, painting, and finally styling I am so happy with the results.

This room inspiration started from the amazing wallpaper by Sian Zeng. Its whimsical yet modern for a little boy to grow up in. I highly recommend checking out her line of beautiful papers for children rooms. The artistry put into each of her designs is really something special and unique that I have not seen in many other wallpapers.

My next obsession and splurge was on the mid-century inspired olive green crib from Land of Nod. I debating for a couple of weeks on if I should go for a more budget friendly crib as there are many great options out there these days, but I could not get the color and lines of this crib out of my head. If we are lucky enough to have more babies, I know this crib will be able to be used again and again. I’m already imaging a girls nursery mixing olive green and pink. But I digress, let’s get back to this room.

Adding the board and batten paneling helped to add another design element to keep the wallpaper a focal point. The pattern on the paper would have lost its special touch and been too busy covering the entire wall due to the size of the room and I did not want to just do a feature wall.

I kept the other elements of the room neutral to not distract from the bold wall treatments. I selected the custom roman shade in a natural oatmeal linen from blinds.com. I have ordered a few roman shades and wood woven shades from them and have always been happy with the results and price point. They offer many options to customize your shades included liners, cordless, and a variety of fabric selections.

The rug was a lucky find. I knew I wanted to bring into the room a really soft and cozy rug since there will be lots of playing in the room on the floor. I searched high and low for the perfect Moroccan style rug that would go into this room. I was worried I was going to have to change the plan, but then I found this ivory and olive patterned rug for a steal from Froy. This rug is so cozy, all of our fur babies are equally in love and immediately lay down and roll around on the rug if they are in there. These rugs are so baby friendly I am now looking for one to put in our living room instead of our jute rug.

As I mentioned in previous weeks, this butterfly chair and side table were items I already owned. I am going to do a trial run with this chair to see if I really need a more traditional rocker. I went back and forth many times on the pouf, debating between the green plaid and this jute one from Wayfair. The jute won as the plaid was a little distracting to the eye and taking away from the wallpaper feature in the room.

There were two DIY’s I incorporated into the room. The first is the blanket ladder to the left of the crib. I gave the ladder a dip dye treatment painting the lower two-thirds the pop of mustard yellow sprinkled throughout the room. The ladder helps to highlight the height of the ceiling making the room feel larger. The second DIY was the canvas banner above the crib. Both of these projects were under $25 and added a special touch to the room.

Last but not least is the lighting for the room. I found this semi-flush mount brass globe fixture on Etsy. This shop has some great lighting selections. I wanted a fixture that would diffuse the light so I made sure it include either a shade or globes instead of exposed lightbulbs. I found the floor lamp for a steal at Target to carry the brass accents throughout the room.

I am a little sad this fun challenge is over. I love a deadline and when it comes to projects in my own home this really helps. I would not have been able to finish this project without the help from my husband and family to meet my strict deadlines.
